1. Natif Coffee & Kitchen

This one was my absolute favourite. I loved the interior, it’s definitely one of the cutest coffee shops I’ve been to. Then it was their salmon croissant, which they called nordic croissant, which was just amazing. But honestly, I’d go there just to admire the interior haha. Yes it’s that cute. It’s not very laptop friendly, so not ideal if you need a place to work or study. It’s located about a 10 minute walk from Gran Vía, close to the Alonso Martínez metro station.

2. Brown Bear Bakery

This is essentially a bakery, but it’s not just a bakery. They have excellent coffee, as well as some breakfast brunch options. I usually went for the salmon bagel, but they had lots of other options. And obviously a huge selection of cakes and pastries. I found it to be slightly cheaper then most of the other cafés I tried. It’s pretty centrally located, just a few minutes from Puerta del Sol, and the Sol metro station.

3. Barehua

With their quality coffee and many breakfast options, Barehua makes for a perfect place for breakfast or brunch. Or even just coffee. I tried the salmon and the hummus toasts, which were both delicious. They also have some pastries and chocolates. Oh, and if you like people watching, you have one more reason to visit. The (almost) floor to ceiling windows allow for some people (and dog) watching. On weekdays they have no problems with people bringing their laptops to work or study, but on weekends they do not allow any laptops. It’s located in the same street as Brown Bear Café.

4. Feliz

A small minimalist coffee shop, mainly offering coffee, but also some pastries. The interior is very cute and the coffee is great. They have two locations – both close to the Puerta del Sol. The one on Calle de Ventura de la Vega has seating, while the one on Calle de Lope de Vega is only for take away (except for two benches in front). They do not allow laptops.

5. Gosto

A nice place to sit down and have a smoothie bowl, toast, pastries – and of course coffee. My go to was the avocado toast, shockingly I didn’t try the smoothie bowl, maybe next time. You are free to bring your laptop here to work/study and I found that to be quite common there. It’s located in the same street as Brown Bear Coffee and Barehua, it’s kind of the unofficial coffee street of Madrid.

6. Syra Coffee

Syra Coffee has four locations in Madrid, all of them are take away only. They are mainly known for their coffee, but also have a small selection of pastries. Highly recommended if you need to grab a quick cup of coffee on the go.

7. Dabov

This speciality coffee shop is a must try for all coffee lovers. They have many different types of coffee for you to choose from, and knowledgable baristas that can explain to you whatever you might want to know about the coffee. Or you can just stop by to grab a bag of their coffee beans to try at home.
